Alex Broad & Andrew Sturt – Opening Day 2014

May 12, 2014

As always the weather never seems to play ball on opening day.  Up early and over the hill we were greeted with a partly cloudy sky and a reasonable wind coming off the lake, better than we expected but still not ideal.  We made the long trek through the swamp and into the mai mai, set up the decoys and settled into a short wait till the season opens proper at 6:30am.

The mai mais around us opened their season a little early, but we waited and soon joined in.

The shear amount of shots going off next door suggested the neighbours were having a ball, we watched in the general direction and watched time and time again a barrage of shots in the general direction of some very high birds, of course the birds were safe, but it must have been a very expensive opening morning for these sky busters!

I managed a nice spoonie which was a welcome change.

Due to the reduced limits this year in our region we stretched it out as long as possible, targeting drakes.

However we were done by 10:30 and packed up and headed out for lunch.

Back at the car park we sat around and enjoyed a cold beer in the sun and watched as the other shooters in the area came back to their vehicles.  The sky busters came in, 3 shooters, 3 swans and a parry…………..Good shooting boys, better luck next year aye.
