I had been working with the Product Development team for a while to produce a packable day pack, so I was excited to get my hands on it finally. Two days before my departure to my Fiordland Roar Trip it turned up – perfect! Since then I have taken it on several trips and have put it to test.
So the Plateau is 15 litres which I found a good size for a short hunt. I could easily fit in binoculars, camera, knife, first aid kit, beacon, and a spare jacket. The extreme packability means that you hardly notice you have it with you, at a mere 130 grams it fits in the palm of your hand.
It now comes with me on every overnight hunt and is perfect to chuck all my gear in for a quick hunt. My Fiordland hunt put it to good use, where I used it almost everyday in the most extreme conditions. The only thing to remember is it isn’t 100% waterproof. It’s also worth noting that the fabric is very lightweight and therefore is a bit scratchy if you’re pushing through lots of bush. It’s comfortable to wear and can carry a pretty solid weight without any concerns.
It’s a great innovation from the team at Hunters Element, I would like to see a bigger brother of the Plateau which could take about 25 litres and was completely waterproof. The Plateau is a must have for any hunter doing an overnighter who wants to pop out for a hunt, and for a RRP of $39.99 it’s extremely affordable.
